Position Summary:

Seeking a positive individual who is motivated to design & implement an interfaith, cross cultural, bilingual CPE program in a diverse community Trauma Level 1 Hospital, alongside the UNM School of Medicine. Preferred Bilingual-Spanish.


Supervises, designs, and implements an interfaith, cross-cultural, bilingual program that establishes and provides ongoing oversight to UNMH’s clinical pastoral education program (CPE) which provides CPE Residents training in a Level 1 Trauma Hospital in accordance with the Standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). The position also serves as a Chaplain. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric and behavioral health groups.
Accountability:
  • DEVELOP – Develop and oversee the UNMH Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program in accordance with the Standards of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE)

  • OVERSIGHT – Oversee administrative functions and maintain ACPE credentials

  • SPIRITUAL NEEDS - Provide in-house, off-site, and on-call spiritual need coverage to patients, families and hospital staff by responding to codes, death, and other emergencies

  • SPIRITUAL NEEDS - Provide spiritual support to patients, families and hospital staff as requested; provide sacraments, worship services, and memorial services

  • COLLABORATION - Collaborate with Hospital staff employees when working with patients to strengthen the care provided; assist in identifying and solving problems

  • OVERSIGHT - Oversee use of chapel for spiritual purposes; act as liaison with local clergy; provide in-service and community educational needs of individual faiths by fostering ecumenical approach to hospital ministry

  • DOCUMENTATION - Compile and complete documentation of patient care activities using the FICA Spiritual Assessment

  • BUDGET - Assist in the preparation of the annual budget

  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols

  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes

  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk

  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner

  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

  • Education Requirements:
  • Masters of Divinity or equivalent

  • Experience Requirements:
  • 2 years directly related experience

  • Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • Associate/Full Supervisor ACPE Certification

  • Ordination & Denominational/Ecclesiastical Endorsement or Equivalent

  • Education Requirements - Preferred:
  • Doctorate of Divinity

  • Experience Requirements - Preferred:
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

  • Physical Demands Requirements:
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. May require walking or standing to a significant degree or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or may require working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of materials is negligible.

  • Tuberculin Skin Test required annually
