Clinical Neuroscience Center

Neurological surgery is the surgical sub-specialty involved with the diagnosis and treatment of adult and pediatric patients with disorders of the brain, spine or peripheral nerves.  The care provided can either be surgical or non-surgical depending on the type of disorder.

Some of the conditions treated by neurosurgeons include spinal disc herniation, spinal stenosis, hydrocephalus, head trauma, spinal cord trauma, brain tumors, hemorrhagic stroke, abnormalities of the peripheral nerves, carotid artery stenosis, and cerebral aneurysms and ateriovenous malformations of the brain and spinal cord.

Neurosurgeons provide the surgical and non-surgical care of neurological disorders and have extensive education and training in the diagnosis and management of neurological diseases.  Residencies in neurosurgery can last up to seven years and often neurosurgeons will complete a fellowship after residency for further training in a particular specialization.
