We encourage all employees that have taken the language test and whose names are listed as dual role interpreters to take the steps necessary to improve their knowledge and skills by taking Bridging the Gap: A Medical Interpreter Training offered by UNMH.
All new employees wanting to test to become a Dual Role Interpreter must test and qualify as a "Sr. Dual Role Interpreter". See forms for qualifications and instructions.
Being an interpreter involves more than knowing two languages. You need to be aware that there are roles, modes of interpretation and a code of ethics that all medical interpreters must follow. ;Medical interpretation is a serious matter since we have to convey the meaning accurately and completely. Training is crucial to develop your interpretation skills.
The quality of interpretation depends on how you manage the flow and how transparent you are in the communication process. UNMH is offering this training for free to all bilingual employees who passed the Language Test and are doing interpretations. We recognize the importance of patient communication. We must strive for the best quality interpretation that we can provide to our patients.
You can log in at Learning Central and sign up for a class at your convenience.
