Members of the Interpreter Service

The Interpreter Language Services Program (ILS) at University Hospitals provides professional language Interpreters to limited-English-proficient and hearing-impaired patients.  ILS Translators must do translation of any documents for the University Hospitals and the UNM Health Sciences Center.

On-site Interpreters facilitate communication between providers and patients, family and visitors.  Interpreters are available for clinic visits to interpret and translate consents, assist in family and health medical team conferences, patient education, and any other special requests.

Our Interpreters and Translators have met the qualified rating for both written and oral American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages test.  All Interpreters have successfully completed a professional training program for Medical Interpreters.   Our goal is to provide quality service by decreasing barriers to health care for limited-English-proficient and hearing-impaired patients who receive their care at University Hospitals.
