Obstetrics

OB Special Care Unit

OB Special Care Unit (OBSC) is a 15 bed unit established to provide care for women who are experiencing difficulties during their pregnancy, including preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, or other maternal health issues such as Lupus, cardiac problems, or substance addiction. All rooms are private with a bathroom in suite and a built-in bed for one overnight guest. The nurses on OBSC are specially trained to assess the fetus without seeing or touching as they are competent in reading a fetal heart monitor to establish the baby's well-being.

Mother Baby Unit

The Mother Baby Unit (MBU) is a 24 bed unit providing care to women who have delivered their baby. Once Mom is stabilized, her healthy baby is brought to her bedside for couplet care, meaning care of both she and her baby by the same nurse. At this time, the baby does not have to leave the room unless Mom requests or the baby needs to have a procedure. All rooms are private with a bathroom in suite and a built-in bed for one overnight guest so the new family can stay together. If the baby needs the care of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, the MBU staff will help Mom get to her baby's bedside. The nurses on the MBU are trained to assist new families in their new role as parents and to establish breastfeeding; should there be a need for more intense intervention, certified Lactation Specialists are available to assist during the Mom's stay.

Newborn Nursery

The Newborn Nursery provides care to all well born, term infants. While in the nursery, the baby will be assessed by trained RN's to confirm the baby's ability to adjust to life outside the uterus. Once the baby is stabilized, he or she is returned to Mom's bedside so the family can continue to bond and get to know each other. Our birth registrars will visit the family to provide the paperwork needed to obtain a birth certificate and social security card from the state for the baby.

Newborn Clinic

Newborn Clinic sees babies 2-3 days after going home to follow up on any jaundice or breastfeeding issues. The Newborn Clinic nurses are able to assess the baby for conditions that could cause health problems, yet are preventable if not taken care of immediately. Breastfeeding assessment and assistance is also performed in this clinic.

Lactation Clinic

If a Mom has continued breastfeeding support needs, the Lactation Clinic is available to help the family with certified Lactation Specialists providing their expertise. This clinic is able to help with all breastfeeding issues, including weaning the baby from the breast.
