Critical Care

Critical Care at the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) in Albuquerque, New Mexico is a rapidly expanding specialty. Our tertiary referral center includes a 24 bed medical intensive care unit, 18 bed trauma surgical intensive care unit, 6 bed burn center, 24 bed neurosurgical intensive care unit, 20 bed pediatric intensive care unit and a 24 bed neonatal intensive care unit. We offer the latest treatments and monitoring for critically ill patients in New Mexico including APRV, PiCCO, HFOV, and the specialty service of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) for adult (mostly Hantavirus) and pediatric indications.

These diverse groups of intensivists span all specialties including anesthesia, surgery, pulmonary, emergency medicine, neurology, pediatric and neonatal physicians. Through combined leadership and joint conferences and research, each group, although separate, work together to assure the citizens of New Mexico the state of the art, critical care and an excellent academic experience for residents and medical students.
