UNM Cancer Center

The University of New Mexico Cancer Center is the state's premiere cancer research and treatment facility, providing advanced, comprehensive medical services; cutting-edge research and clinical trials; and valuable community resources - all with personal patient and family support.

Named the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico by the State Legislature, the UNM Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center in the state and one of only 65 in the nation, putting it in the elite ranks of the nation's very best cancer centers.

The UNM Cancer Center is home to New Mexico’s largest and most experienced team of cancer experts, with more than 85 board-certified oncology physicians recruited from some of the world’s most prestigious cancer institutions. We also have more than 120 cancer researchers supported by more than $54 million in private and federal funding, as well as ongoing partnerships with Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute and New Mexico State University to find cures for cancer.

Each year we serve more than 11,000 patients in more than 124,000 clinic visits, which represents more than 65% of the adults and virtually all of the children in New Mexico affected by cancer. We also provide people across New Mexico with access to world-class cancer treatment through an expanding statewide cancer care network with collaborative clinical programs in Las Cruces, Santa Fe and Farmington.

Generous funding from the people of New Mexico through the State Legislature resulted in the 206,000-square-foot, $90-million UNM Cancer Treatment and Clinical Research Facility, which opened in the Fall of 2009. Equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and engineered for efficient, comfortable patient care, this new state-of-the-art facility nurtures effective patient healing in a beautiful and hopeful environment.
