The Someone Cares Program serves the littlest patients of Children's Hospital of New Mexico. This unique program ties volunteers from outside of the hospital to the patients and their families.
Through generous donations, time and talent. Volunteers make items to aide in the comfort of the babies in the neonatal units. These volunteers come from all walks of life. They range from civic groups to individuals. Together they have donated over 60,000 hours of service along with several hundred dollars in cash donations.
The large quilted items have been used to cover the isolettes, that have become the temporary home for the baby. These quilts give the isolettes a warm and cozy feeling for both babies and parents. The beautifully handcrafted afghans, quilts, and receiving blankets help to keep the babies warm, while parents cuddle with their child. The babies will often be dressed in the sweater garments and wrapped with the receiving blankets or afgans for their journeys home. With over 3,000 babies born a year at UNM Children's Hospital, there are several that are premature. This program touches the lives of these babies, their parents and the staff that care for them. The gifts of love made by willing hands and helping hearts make the difference. They truly show that Someone Cares.
The Someone Cares Program is always in need of talented volunteers and cash donations. Items used in this program are: Preemie or small sweater clothes, hats, booties, Quilts, Afghans Receiving Blankets and Isolette Covers.
