As a "UNM" entity, all donations given to UNM Children's Hospital are deposited at the UNMoundation. The UNM Foundation has the responsibility to receive, record, acknowledge, and report gifts to all UNM entities.
Donors wishing to make a contribution to UNM Children's Hospital on-line can designate their gift to the Hospitals through the Foundation's web site at the Donate Online Now link at the left.
Additional information about the UNM Foundation can be found on-line at www.unm.edu/~unmfdn/about.html or by calling (505) 277-4503.
There are many different ways to support UNM Children's Hospital and many programs we provide to our patients and their families. Our staff can work with you one-on-one to meet your donation requests.
Donations may be unrestricted or designated/restricted depending on the wishes of our donor. An unrestricted gift is a contribution that allows the hospital to use your donation where it is most needed. A designated or restricted contribution is used to meet a specific need the donor has specified before making their gift to the Hospital. In-kind contributions are tangible items given to help us continue helping patients and their families. To receive tax credit for your in-kind contribution, the donor must specify the value of the in-kind gift.
There are always needs to be met, and every gift, no matter how large or small, can make a big difference!
Unrestricted gifts to the hospital are used where the hospital needs it the most. This too can happen in several ways. A majority of the gifts made to the hospital are used for program and equipment needs.
Contributions made through the Children's Miracle Network program and additional unrestricted gifts made to the Hospital are used during our Allocations Day held in early April of every year. Areas that care for children and are a part of UNM Hospitals have the opportunity to apply for unrestricted donated funds through the allocations process.
During Allocations Day, each applicant presents their requests to a committee of selected community members, nurses and doctors. This committee reviews the requests and determines what will be funded and how much to fund.
During Allocation Day in April 2003, $744,000 was allocated from unrestricted gifts to areas within UNM Children's Hospital, UNM Children's Psychiatric Center and UNM Carrie Tingley Hospital. Over $1.4 million was requested from areas caring for children, which means that only half of the requests could be funded.
Some examples of programs and equipments funded through unrestricted gifts are below.
Unrestricted gifts can also be held in trust for UNM Hospitals by the UNM Foundation for future needs of the hospitals.
Below are examples of designated contributions made over the past year by individuals and community organizations. These gifts have helped a specific area of the hospital.
Plus, designated gifts have also helped us support Pete's Playground, Pediatric Oncology, Newborn Intensive Care, the Child Life Program, and so many other important areas of the hospital.
Donors wishing to designate their gift to a certain area of the Hospital are encouraged to call the UNM Children's Hospital Development Office at (505) 277-5685 to assist you with your gift.
The Hospital is always in need of certain items that help our patient and their families. Items such as artwork and sculptures that bring color and life to our hallways, clinics and exam rooms to toys, books, fun band-aids, clothes, wheelchairs, and so much more. Gifts of this nature help us to provide a more comfortable experience to families as they go through difficult times.
Special Note: Donated funds are not used for staff salaries or operating expenses so that 100 percent of your gift can help us purchase necessary medical equipment and programs for children cared for at UNM Children's Hospitals!
