UNM Hospital was founded more than 50 years ago as the Bernalillo County Indian Hospital. As the hospital mission and services have grown, so too have the facilities. The main hospital expanded in 1964, in the mid 70's, in 1986, in 1991, and most recently in 2007. Today, UNM Hospital has grown to encompass a system of five state-of-the-art health care facilities: UNM Hospital, UNM Children's Hospital (the only Children's Miracle Network Hospital in the state of New Mexico), UNM Carrie Tingley Hospital, UNM Psychiatric Center, and UNM Children's Psychiatric Center. These five facilities all work together to provide the best surgical techniques, medical treatments and the latest drug therapies to the entire state of New Mexico, Southern Colorado and Eastern Arizona.
Nationally recognized for its state-of-the-art patient care, excellence in teaching, cutting-edge research, and compassionate family-centered care, the vision at UNM Hospitals is to identify and solve the most important questions of human health in our communities. As the largest public hospital in New Mexico, UNM Hospitals serves as the safety net for people in need of medical care.
Each year, the cost of replacing equipment exceeds the amount of funds available. The UNM Hospital Fundraising Department raises funds to help purchase state-of-the-art equipment, provide funding for programs that would not otherwise be funded (Child Life, Reach Out and Read, and others), and to build new buildings or make renovations on existing buildings. 100% of the funds raised through the efforts of the UNM Hospital Foundation are given to these projects.
With so many opportunities to help UNM Hospitals, we're sure you will find a giving opportunity that is personally rewarding. No matter which route you take, your generosity will make a difference.
