The Division of Nephrology at UNM Children’s Hospital is the largest treatment center in New Mexico for infants, children, and adolescents with kidney disorders and high blood pressure. We evaluate and treat patients with kidney diseases and related disorders including abnormalities in the urine, kidney stones, persistent urinary tract infections, kidney birth defects, chronic kidney failure, dialysis and kidney transplantation.

The Nephrology program offers comprehensive services including New Mexico’s only dedicated Pediatric Dialysis Center, which provides inpatient and outpatient hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Pediatric kidney transplantation is performed with UNM Transplant Services in conjunction with Pediatric Nephrology. We perform 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure testing in children, which allows us to identify of elevated blood pressure readings are related to anxiety or if further testing is needed. Other services provided include percutaneous kidney biopsy, assessment for kidney stone risk factors and prevention, nutritional counseling, social work and child life assessments as well.
