Intermediate Care Nursery (ICN)

NICU Nursing Station

The Intermediate Care Nursery has 24 beds for growing premature and ill newborns who are not ready to be discharged home; but do not require a Newborn Intensive Care Unit for their care. There are also 4 transitional beds dedicated for newborns from labor and delivery to provide additional monitoring until the newborn is stable. This unit is staffed by Registered Nurses who each care for three infants. We promote family centered care and teach families how to care for their infant in preparation for discharge. All infants have car seat trials, hearing screens, and other diagnostic monitoring needed on an individual patient basis. The Intermediate Care Nursery nurses and medical care providers will partner with social workers, family liaisons, developmental care specialists, case managers and lactation specialists to help families and infants when needed.
