UNM Carrie Tingley Hospital Patient Guide
Visiting Hours
Help us enforce visitation guidelines with friends and relatives who will be visiting.
- Parents and grandparents may visit at any time.
- Others may visit after therapies unless otherwise arranged with the Rehab Team.
- Keep first visits short since your child may be tired from the day's stimulation
and therapy.
- Two visitors, in addition to the parents, may visit in your child's room at any
one time.
- Doors are locked after 8 p.m., so use the doorbell to the right of the front or
East hospital entrance.
- Children are welcome to visit, but must have close parental supervision at all
times.
- Please do not visit if you are ill, or bring any child who has recently been
exposed to, or who has, a contagious illness.
Meals
Depending on your child's limitations you may help your child choose their meals from
a daily menu. Beverages and snacks are also made available for your child. You may bring
snack or favorite foods for your child unless (s)he is on a special diet.
Dining Room
Your child is encouraged to take all meals in the Patient Dining Room. This helps the
children get acquainted and socialize with one another while they are away from home.
Clothes
Your child should wear clothes from home while in the hospital, except for the day of
surgery. Mark each item of clothing with your child's name in permanent marker. Please
bring one week's supply of clothes.
Phones
Each room has a telephone. Outside callers may call directly to the room, however,
hospital staff cannot answer the calls. To make an outside LOCAL call, dial 9 first,
then the number. You may make long distance calls by charging them to your home number
or your credit card.
What to Bring
We furnish hospital gowns, soap and a toothbrush for the patient. It will be helpful
if you can bring a little bit of home with you. Your child may be more comfortable with
his/her own pajamas, robe and slippers. A favorite toy, photographs, schoolwork, books
or a security blanket may go a long way in easing the discomfort of being in a strange place.
For teens, there are facilities for playing their favorite tapes. Posters and other
familiar favorites from home are welcome. Please identify your child's belongings clearly.
Do not bring valuables of any kind such as jewelry or large sums of money. Carrie
Tingley Hospital cannot be responsible for any lost items. Do not leave any items of value
i.e. purses, radios, etc unattended in the patient rooms. Latex balloons are NEVER allowed
in any area of the hospital.
