The Experts in Sleep Medicine
Populations Served
The UNMHSC Program in Sleep Medicine provides complete and comprehensive services related
to all sleep disorders.
Pediatrics: We have the only in-patient pediatric sleep laboratory in the
state of New Mexico, and care for infants and children of all ages and with all types of
medical problems. We have a pediatric neurologist and a pediatric pulmonologist on staff,
board-certified and trained in sleep medicine, to provide specialized care for youngsters.
Adults: We treat patients with disorders relating to snoring and sleep apnea,
restless legs, shift work, insomnia, night terrors, poor sleep hygiene and many other sleep/wake
disorders.
Seniors: We care for patients with sleep disorders related to aging,
including insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, abnormal behaviors during sleep
(including REM behavior disorder), and sleep/wake problems due to medications, dementia,
heart failure, chronic pain, kidney disease and other medical conditions.
Women: Women often first develop insomnia after they have children or during
menopause. Family responsibilities, worry, stress, medical conditions, medications, sleep
apnea, restless legs and post-traumatic stress disorder all can impair a woman's ability to get
the restful night's sleep she needs to function. We are expert in analyzing these problems
and providing solutions.
