UNMH Registered Nurse to Bachelors in Nursing Cohort
Sheena Ferguson, the UNMH Director of Nursing Education, Practice and Research,
was instrumental in negotiating with the UNM College of Nursing (CON) to arrange the formation of
a UNMH RN to Bachelors in Nursing (BSN) cohort. All the classes will be held on Wednesday evenings
from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Since the CON is now on a three-term, open learning schedule, a student
can complete three courses a year if they take one class a term.
The courses include the following:
Nurs 340—Advancement of Professional Nursing
Nurs 332— Introduction to Nursing Research & Evidence-based Practice
Nurs 431— Community Assessment
Nurs 441—Evidence-based Applications of Health Assessment
Nurs 442—Nursing Leadership in Health Policy and Health Care Systems
Nurs 447L—Family and Community Health Practicum
Nurs 448—Application of Health and Illness Concepts
Two upper division electives: one in nursing when available the other unrestricted
In addition, there are several RN to BSN cohorts around the state of New Mexico.
Three are offered in the Albuquerque area: one on-line course, one at UNMH and one in Rio Rancho.
Others are being offered in Gallup, Hobbs, Clovis, Santa Fe, and Farmington.
