Clinical Education is comprised of three departments: 1.) The BATCAVE
which houses the Human Simulation Lab and the Community Training Center, 2.) Clinical
Education and the 3.) Community Precepting Center.
The BATCAVE, which stands for
Basic-Advanced-Trauma-Computer-Assisted-Virtual-Experience, houses the Human Simulation Lab
with the largest array of full-body high-fidelity simulators, virtual simulators and passive
manikins in the region. Additionally, it is the home of the Community Training Center or CTC
which offers BLS, Pediatric & Adult ALS, ENPC, TNCC, Trauma ALS, NRP, FCCS, and a variety of
other national certifications.
Clinical Education utilizes Benner’s Model of Professional Development
from Novice to Expert to organize our education matrix and professional development curricula.
Novice or advanced beginner level programs are described as basic or introductory courses.
Intermediate or competency courses are for the competent category. Advanced or enhanced courses
are targeted to the proficient or expert. Master clinicians are asked to bring their expertise
to the expert programs by becoming instructors. The Education team, comprised of a Clinical
Educator with expertise in education development and the Unit-based Educator with expertise in
clinical practice, make up an Education Pod.
The Community Precepting Center is UNMH’s mission to address the public
health issue of shortages in health care professionals
