Giving to UNM Children's Hospitals

Meet the Staff

The primary role of UNM Children's Hospital's fundraising office is to raise funds from the community to support the needs of UNM Children's Hospitals and the Health Sciences Center Art Program. However, the staff will work with you to create a gift for any of our affiliated hospitals. Imagine what great things you as a community can do today to make a difference in the life of a sick child through your contribution.

Hazel Tull-Leach joined the fundraising staff at UNM Hospital as the Executive Director of Development and Marketing on May 2.  Her position entails directing, initiating, maintaining and evaluating all aspects of the Hospitals Development Program.   Tull-Leach's primary task will be to generate contributions to support the needs of the UNM Hospital Expansion Project.

Tull-Leach said, "I am so priveleged to be a part of this project that will impact the future health care of New Mexicans.  The hospital and its staff are very dear to my heart.  They saved the life of my son Matthew with the expert and state-of-the-art care they provided to him.  I am excited to be working for this very important state resource."

Among Tull-Leach's past achievements is the creation of Lobo Legacy, a planned giving program that benefits student athletes at UNM. Since establishing Lobo Legacy in 2001, Hazel recorded more than $6 million in planned gifts as well as funding for scholarships and other priorities.   Tull-Leach cites one project funded by Lobo Legacy as particularly close to her heart: an academic lab for student athletes, offering resources to help them meet their educational objectives.

In addition, Hazel:

  • Is the color commentator for the Lobo Women's Basketball team
  • Has designed and cultivated Coach Bob King's Family Endowment project
  • Developed and initiated Coach Don Flanagan's Endowed Scholarship Fund
  • Is a former Lobo Women's Assistant Basketball Coach

Denise Codding is development assistant responsible for researching for potential funding sources and writing proposals for grant requests from foundations.  In addition, she is responsible for assisting the Major Gifts Officer and the Public Affairs representative.  She coordinates the logistical aspects of fund raising events and special stewardship events.  Denise also handles the accounts payables, receivables, and budget tracking.  Denise has been with the organization for over 13 years, working in Administration prior to coming to the Development Office 7 years ago.
